The Downey Eagle October 5, 2001 Volume 9 Number 33 Memorial service for Reta May Bickle DOWNEY-A memorial service was held Sept. 25 at the First Baptist Church of Downey for Reta May Bickle, a resident of Downey since 1949 and a longtime teacher of Sunday School. She was 76, born in Ontario, Canada on March 20, 1925, and died of pancreatic cancer Sept. 20. She and her husband came to California in 1947, settling in Downey in 1949. She became a naturalized citizen, an honor she was happy to achieve. She had a special ministry to children, and taught the 5th grade girls Sunday School class at First Baptist Church for 35 years. She day cared more than 50 children in her home, and mentored many young mothers. She travelled extensively in Europe. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Errol; her sons, Douglas and David Bickle; her daughter, Joan Bickle; five grandchildren, Jan Brewer Tremaine, Melissa Brewer, Jeffrey Brewer, Melinda Brewer, and Brandon Bickle; a great-grandson, Mark Tremaine; a brother, Edgar Davey; and two sisters, Bertha Prithard and Helen Bickle. Burial was Sept. 25 in Anaheim.
