Brenda Boss Published: Wednesday, September 22, 2010 11:47 AM PDT 95, a longtime resident of Bear Valley passed away peacefully on Sept. 11, 2010. She was born in San Bernardino on June 14, 1915. Brenda attended the University of Redlands and became a teacher. She taught school for over 30 years teaching all grades K-12. She came to Big Bear in 1941 and began teaching in a two-room log cabin with outdoor plumbing now the site of the Elk's Lodge. She married masonry contractor John Boss in 1948 and together they raised three sons in this Valley. She very early realized the need for a hospital in Big Bear and worked tirelessly for many years until it became a reality. She finally retired from teaching but continued to tutor students and served on both the school and hospital boards. She founded both the Vollenteens program and the hospital auxiliary, served on dozens of school and youth committees and has received numerous community service awards. Brenda truly cared for the people of this Valley and will be dearly missed. She is survived by her sons David Boss and Dr. Peter Boss. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to The Bear Valley Community Hospital Foundation.
