Downey mourns passing of Erny Walter Briggs
DOWNEY-Memorial services will be held Sunday, Oct. 19 at 2 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of 
Downey for Erny Walter Briggs, the owner/proprietor of Briggs Realty and a realtor and appraiser for 
40 years, who died in Downey Community Health Center Oct. 10. 
Born in Bradford, Illinois, Oct. 17, 1914, he was 82, and lived in Downey since 1951. 
He was a 2nd Lieutenant connected to the Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) of the U.S. Army in World 
War II, attached to the Paratroopers. He was a member of the Downey Chamber of Commerce and the 
Downey Board of Realtors. 
Survivors include his wife, Louise Briggs of Downey; a daughter, Jean Louise Peterson of Playa Del Rey; 
a grandson, Thomas Vincent Pickett; and a sister, Gertrude V. Kronsted of Galesburg, Illinois. 
Graveside services were Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier. Arrangements were 
by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
