She was our dearly loved stepmother, aunt, sister, sister-in-law, and step-grandmother and will be missed by all in her family. Jean was born May 6, 1924, in Los Angeles, California to Mary and John Treglezoff, the second of three daughters, Pauline, Mary Jean and Pearl. Jean was educated in Los Angeles schools and then worked to help support her family as a young woman. She married Ray W. Brown of the Los Angeles County Sheriffs Dept. in November of 1946, and they enjoyed many years in their home in Monterey Park, California. Jean worked in Los Angeles for Crowell, Weedon & Co., an investment brokerage firm, until she and her husband retired in 1974. They built a new home near Tehachapi in Cameron Canyon, Kern County, where they lived many happy years in retirement enjoying various members of their family who lived nearby, numerous friends and her many dogs (Jean was known for her love of dogs and her willingness to take in abandoned pets). She was an avid reader and enjoyed watching movies and sporting events on television. Jean continued to live in their canyon home following the death of her husband in 1985. In October 2000, she moved to the Alterra Sterling House (now Oakdale Heights) Assisted Living Center in Bakersfield, where she thoroughly enjoyed her many new friends, acquaintances and the wonderful staff of that facility. Jean endured the loss of many family members prior to her own death, including her parents, Mary and John, her older sister Pauline and her husband Ray. She is survived by her younger sister Pearl (Kitty) Schultz of Albuquerque, New Mexico; her stepson, Ray W. Brown Jr. and his wife Carole of Logan, UT; her niece Karen Vukich and her husband George of Tehachapi, California; two step-grandchildren, David Brown of Bend, Oregon; and Scott Brown and his wife Debbie of Sandy, Utah, four step-great grandchildren, and numerous other family members from her husband's side of the family. In honor of Jean's wishes a simple graveside service was held on January 30, 2004 in Mojave, California at the East Kern Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, Jean also requested that donations in her memory be made to Optimal Hospice Care, 1315 Boughton Dr., Bakersfield, CA 93308 or a favorite charity. Arrangements by Stickel Mortuary-Mojave, California.
