Mel was a WWII veteran, member of VFW, Modern Woodmen, Moose Lodge, Weighmaster and Telegraph clerk for the M/I Railroad and a Mail Clerk for U.S. Postal Service. A devoted husband and father, and very proud of his Irish heritage. Preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Burke, May 1995. Loving father to Tom Burke of Modesto, Arlene Falkenhein of Sparta, IL, Patricia Caupert of Cutler, IL, Mary Kaye Patton of Sparta, IL, Helen Burke of Sparta, IL, Teresa Moreyra of St. Augustine, FL. Cherished grandfather to John, Kim, Shari, John, Trisha, Jim, Tom, Justin, Candice, Amanda, John, Julia and Katie. Dearest great grandfather to Trevor, Haley, Sean, Kirsten, Patrick, Katherine and Jayneann. Visitation Friday, October 28th, 11 a.m. at Fremont Chapel of the Roses, 1940 Peralta Blvd., Fremont. Chapel service 12 p.m. at the mortuary. Burial to follow at Irvington Memorial Cemetery in Fremont.
