Mojave Desert News; 2 Feb 2002 Services set for Larry Ciambrelli Singer spent life in show business BY BILL DEAVER MOJAVE A memorial service will be held Sunday, February 10, at 1 p.m. at the Community Congregational Church in Mojave for Larry Ciambrelli, who was found dead in his home west of here January 28. Ciambrelli was best known to area residents for his beautiful voice, which recalled the late Bing Crosby. Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, a city whose accent he retained throughout his life, he was the son of Pasquale C and Viola Ciambrelli. He spent his life as a stagehand and lighting director at Radio City Music Hall and for the National Broadcasting Company in New York City, and retired as a member of the International Association of Theatrical and Stage Employees (IATSE). Ciambrelli moved to California in 1985 after finding his home in the Homesteads northwest of Mojave. He loved animals, and was usually accompanied by one or more of his dogs. He played pro baseball in his younger days, and recently told a friend, Sybil Hughes of Mojave, that he faced a big decision as a youth on whether to pursue a career in sports or music. "He said he'd 'probably made the wrong decision,'" Hughes said last Sunday. Anyone who ever heard Larry Ciambrelli sing would probably disagree. "He was a delightful man," Hughes added.
