SKW; 24 Mar 2001 Funeral services were held March 16 at the Mojave Assembly of God Church for Barbara Ann Cook, a former employee of the Mojave Unified School District, who passed away March 13 in Lancaster. A 25-year Mojave resident, Mrs. Cook was born February 20, 1946, in Tulare. She is survived by her mother, Gene Hawkins, a son, Royal Cook, sisters Betty Rivera and Janelle Hawkins, daughter-in-law Becky Cook, and nieces Tracy Giebler and Kristi Mudge. Arrangements were handled by Stickel Mortuary of Mojave. Mojave Desert News Longtime Mojave resident Barbara (Hawkins) Cook passed away on the morning of March 13, 2001. Cook (Hawkins) a 35 year resident of Mojave, passed away Tuesday, March 13 in AV Hospital of Terminal Cancer. Barbara was born February 20, 1 946 in Tulare, California. She also resided in Ashland, Oregon, and Concord, California. Barbara was a retired bookkeeper for the Mojave Unified School District. She leaves to mourn: Her mother. Gene Hawkins of California, one son, Royal Cook and his wife Becky, one granddaughter, Aliya Cook, two sisters, Betty Rivers and Janelle Hawkins, two nieces, Tracy Giebler and Kristi Mudge, all of Illinois. Barbara's dad, Leon Hawkins preceded her in death in 1997. Services were held Friday, March 1 6 at 1 p.m. at the Mojave Assembly of God. Internment was at the East Kern (Mojave) Cemetery, conducted by Pastor Owens, Rev. Jack Wright, and Rev. Grant Frye. Please make donations in lieu of flowers to Cancer Society, City of Hope. Arrangements by Stickel Mortuary. Barbara Cook was full of like and laughter right up to the end. She brought joy to most folks who met her, and to all of us who knew her. As her granddaughter has told us, "Grandma Barbara isn't gone, she's in my head and in my heart." That is so, so true.
