Appeal Democrat, Thursday, February 12, 1953 Cooley - The death of Verdenal Walker (Bert) Cooley occurred in a local hospital last night on the eve of his 74th birthday. a resident of the Bi-County area for more then 50 years, Cooley had been active in veteran's affairs. he died as the result of long failing health. Cooley was a native of San Francisco. He was a fruit grower in the Lincoln district of Sutter County until taking a position with Yuba Consolidated Gold fields at Hammonton more then 20 years ago. he most recently had been employed as land manager for the dredging firm. Cooley made his home at 422 page St Yuba City. he was past commander of the Bishop- Langenbach post of the Veterans of Foreign wars and was a member of the Spanish-American war veteran. services will be conducted friday at 2:30 pm in Lipp & Sullivan chapel, Marysville. Interment will be in Sutter City Cemetery. Survivors include a son, Verdenal, of Alameda; two daughters, Mrs Alice Pascoe, San Marion, and Mrs Edward Wells, Belmont; a sister, Mrs James McKean, Alameda and three grandchildren.
