Mountain Messenger 1/12/1895, Pg. 2 DIED CROWLEY - In Howland Flat, Sierra County, Cal., Dec. 11th, 1894, Mrs. Ellen Crowley, wife of Timothy Crowley, and mother of John and Lizzie Crowley, a native of Ireland, aged 78. Mountain Messenger 1/12/1895, Pg. 2 Death of Mrs. Crowley It will be with regret that the many friends of Mrs. Crowley will learn of her sad death. Mrs. Crowley was one of the oldest residents of Sierra County, having resided in Poker flat and Howland Flat since along in the early fifties. The poor old lady passed away at her home in this place on the morning of 11th inst. At the ripe old age of 78 years. She leaves a husband ( Timothy Crowley ) who was at her bedside almost constantly from the tme of her first illness until her death ( about 4 months ). She also leaves one son John Crowley and daughter Lizzie Crowley. The former being in San Francisco and the latter in Chico. Although Lizzie was not at home at the time of her mothers death, it must be said she visited her mother twice since she was taken sick and did all the kind hands of a loving daughter could do to allay the sufferings of her sick mother and bring her back to health. But the old lady had passed beyond the help of earthly powers. God had claimed her for his own. The corpse was laid away in a handsome coffin and cream colored shroud. This would doubtless have been the largest funeral we have had for years, had it not been for the severe wind storm and cold weather that prevailed at the time of her death. As it was all turned out that possibly get there. May her soul rest in peace. Howland Flat, Dec. 14th, 1894. A Friend
