A Fremont resident, born October 28, 1959, in San Francisco, Robert was welcomed into the comforting and healing arms of his Lord after much suffering from a heart ailment on January 6, 2004, at age 44. Robert was the son of Joanne Cryer and the late Ronald Cryer (1999). He was the proud father of two sons, Ronald Thomas and Joseph Robert. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Deborah and Jeff King, and nephew, Joshua, of Federal Way, WA; grandmother, Shirley Roberts, of Sacramento; and other relatives and many friends. He resided in Fremont for twenty-three years, spent his childhood in San Mateo, and teen years in Union City. Robert was a project manager for Shelter Development of Menlo Park. He also owned Cal-Western Construction, was a licensed California Contractor, member of the California Real Estate Inspection Association, lifetime member of the NRA, ECV, and attended Centerville Presbyterian Church. His family and the outdoors were his joys. He participated in Boy Scouts most of his life, recently as Quartermaster of his sons' troop. He enjoyed sharing his boat with family and friends and was patient while teaching others to water ski. Robert had a large gun collection and delighted in teaching about guns and gun safety. One of Robert's greatest pleasures came while working beside his father on many building and repair projects at their church. Robert's ready smile, friendly waves, loyal friendship, integrity, and humor will be missed by his many friends, and especially by his family. A friend said, "Robert was a great guy. He was always ready to help with a task and give an encouraging smile." All are invited to a celebration of Robert's life to be held Friday, January 16, 1:00 p.m., at Centerville Presbyterian Church, 4360 Central Avenue, Fremont. Inurnment will be at Irvington Memorial Cemetery. The family requests that any remembrances be made to Centerville Presbyterian Church, designated to either the Memorial Fund or the Fund for Ronald and Joseph Cryer. Any correspondence, especially to his teenage sons, may be sent to 40427 Dolerita Ave., Fremont, CA 94539. For more information, please call Berge-Pappas-Smith Chapel of the Angels, (510) 656-1226.
