Daily Press, Hesperia Star & Desert Dispatch; 4/2/2009 - 4/3/2009 Ray Russell Eddy, with his family by his side, passed away March 29, 2009. He was born July 25, 1929 in Barstow to Asahel and Ova Eddy. He is survived by his sweetheart and wife of 59 years, Janie; sister, Alice Setzer; children, Susie (Rob) Anderson, Max (Dianna) Eddy Sr., and Jane Ellen (Mike) Gesereich; grandchildren, Ryan (Michelle) Addington, Alison (Jason) Addington, Amber (Brian) People, Chester "Buck" Rogers IV, Max (Monica) Eddy Jr., Matthew (Genevieve) Eddy, Dylan Rogers, Christopher Addington, Ethan Mahlum, Gus Gesereich, Deserae and Sarah Anderson; great-grandchildren, Yasmine, Austin, Brooke, Conner, Tre', Tayden, Gavin and Rylie; and many nieces and nephews who loved "Unc." Ray was a Korean War veteran serving in the U.S. Army, 7th Calvary Regiment. Ray was employed at Dewolf's Day and Night Market as a meat cutter where he met and worked with Morgan Ray. Ray joined Morgan in Barstow Provisions (re-named Morgan Meat Co.) where he remained for over 30 years. As a Barstow native, Ray spent his life in community service, as a scout master of Troop 68, three years as area chairman for American Heart Association, a member of the 20-30 Club, Barstow Lions Club, a volunteer firefighter for the Barstow Fire District, elected to the Board of Directors and served during the building of the fire headquarters building. He served on many committees for the Chamber of Commerce, belonged to the Barstow-Boron Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Al Malaikah Shrine Temple, and Past President of the Barstow Shrine Club. Services will be held Saturday, April 4 at 11 a.m. at Mead Mortuary, 36930 Irwin Road.
