The Downey Eagle June 1, 2001 Volume 9 Number 15 Services today for William Henry Elliott DOWNEY-Services are being held today (Friday, June 1) at the Riverside National Cemetery with full military honors for William Henry Elliott, a longtime Downey resident and former letter carrier for the Downey Post Office. He was born March 28, 1917 in Mt. Pleasant, Texas, one of 11 children of John and Irene. He served his country in World War II in the Army Infantry, and received the Purple Heart for a leg injury. When he came to Downey in 1941 he went to work for the Post Office. He loved to fish, and also loved to read the history of the old west, of which he was an authority. Survivors include his sons, Tom and Ron; a daughter, Sharon; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Burial follows at Riverside National Cemetery. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
