Fennell, lovingly called "Booger," passed away June 18, 2001, in Sierra Vista, Arizona after a long illness. James was born February 13, 1951 in Valliant, Oklahoma. He was a member of the 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry of the 25th Division. The Specialist entered into the United States Army (Vietnam) in February 1968. He received a Bronze Star for heroism against a hostile force, two purple hearts and numerous meritorious awards of valor. James was highly decorated veteran and a lifetime member of the VFW and DAV. After his tour of duty he resided in the Antelope Valley area. He was a graduate of Los Palos High School, California, and resided in Oregon for the last 13 years. James was loved by many and he'll be missed by all. His favorite motto was: "Deeds not words." He leaves behind: his wife of 13 years, Betty D. Fennell, of Klammoth Falls, OR; one sister, Nora Carlton, of Tucson, AZ; one brother, Mike Fennell, of California City, CA; his parents, JC and Opal Fennell, of Boron, CA; one stepdaughter, Veronica Cahn, of Tiagare, OR; one stepson, Leon Hicks, of Concord, NC, five grandchildren, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 30, 2001, in Central Park in California City at 2 p.m., conducted by the DAV Chaplain. Interment will be July 3, 2001 also at 2 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point, Oregon. Arrangements by Stickel Mortuary.
