Source Unknown; 8 Jan 2003 Long-time Boron, California resident, Opal Florence Fennell, passed away on December 22, 2003 at home after a long-term illness. She was born in Valliant, Oklahoma on September 13, 1932. Opal had worked as a Muroc Unified School District bus driver and was owner of Fennell's Garage and Chevron gas station in Boron. She was predeceased by son James Fennell in 2001. She is survived by her husband, J.C. Fennell of Boron, daughter Nora (Jerry) Carlton of Arizona, son Mike (Janet) Fennell of California City, California, daughter-in-law Betty Fennell of Oregon, sisters Fay Carey of Fresno, California, Pearl Axton of Right City, Oklahoma, brother Paul Dodderer of Garland, Texas, five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Services were held by Dorotha Howard from the Emanual Church in Boron, on December 27 at the Assembly of God Church with interment at Joshua Memorial Park in Lancaster, California. Opal enjoyed being around her family. She enjoyed playing Bingo. She was a strong-willed leader in everything she did and someone you could trust for her true thoughts. She took extra time for each of her grandchildren and for their lives. We all knew she had to go. There will never be anyone else like her and she could never be replaced. She was a genuine Opal.
