The Downey Eagle March 2, 2001 Volume 9 Number 2 Funeral services held for Raymond Fleming Jr. DOWNEY-Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 26, at the First Baptist Church of Downey for Raymond A. Fleming Jr., a Downey resident for 45 years, who died Feb. 22 at a convalescent hospital in Norwalk following a brief illness. He was 80. Fleming was born in Charleroi, Pennsylvania and proudly served his country during WWII. His medals and citations included the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and the WWII Victory Medal. He worked as an accountant for Cal Strip Steel for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Johnnie, his stepdaughters June Shaw, Brenda Richards and stepson James R. Marshall. He also leaves 5 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, as well as brothers Elmer, Wayne and Brian. Pastor Don Burgess officiated at the services which were arranged by Risher Montebello Mortuary. Interment followed at Park Lawn Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Youth Camp Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church of Downey.
