Source Unknown; 19 Jun 1952 One Killed As Brother's Cars Crash Death and injury overtook a family vacation trip last Friday, at 8:00 A.M. on Highway 6, Heinz Gary Fredrichs 29, of San Francisco died as a result of a cerebral concussion when his 1950 Cheve smashed into the rear end of his brother-in-law's 1941 Cheve as he was stopped to prepare to turn into Jawbone Cafe, 18 miles north of Mojave. Passengers in the Fredrichs car were Lily Fredrichs, wife, Mr. Herman Hahn 61, her father. In the second car driven by Frietz Philippsborn, were his wife, Vera, their infant son, Ronald and Mrs. Hahn, mother of the 2 women. Mr. and Mrs. Fredrichs and Mr. Hahn were brought to the Mojave Hospital by the O'Donnell Ambulance. Mr. Fredrichs was pronounced D.O.A., Mrs. Fredrichs was treated for a scalp laceration and Mr. Hahn for a broken leg and face laceration. Only minor injuries were received by Mr. and Mrs. Philippsborn and Mrs. Hahn and the baby escaped injuries. They were all brought to the Mojave hospital by the California Highway Patrol. The families were enroute to Lake 'Tahoe when the accident occurred. Philippsborn had stopped his car and was signaling to Fredrichs to do likewise but he evidentally did not see the signal and plunged into the rear of the car at approximately 55 miles an hour according to the C.H.P. officer.
