Garland at 80 DOWNEY-Funeral services were held at the Rose Hills Hillside Chapel for Jack F. Garland, a 53-year Downey resident and a former personnel employee for 25 years of Rockwell International. He then worked for Safeway Stores, Inc., as a wage and hour inspector, from which he retired in 1986. He was 80 and died April 30 of injuries suffered in a car accident in Whittier. He was born in 1918 in Cleveland, Ohio, and attended Miami University in Ohio and later USC. In 1942 he entered the Army, serving in the 10th Armored Division in Europe. He was honorably discharged as a Captain in 1946. Late in 1946 he and his wife, Della, and daughter, Gail, moved to Downey. In the 1960s he was active in civic affairs. He was a member of the Downey Planning Commission, the Cemetery Board, the Recreation Commission, Rose Float Association, and the local Draft Board. Survivors include his wife, Della; his daughters, Gail Garland of Downey, Dawn Davison of Hacienda Heights; a son, Jack Jr., of La Habra; and five grandchildren, Brian, Jennifer, Jacob, Becky and Joshua Davison; and a brother, Garfield of Downey. Burial followed at Rose Hills.
