All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; Date Unknown Frank Lee Givens, Sr. was born December 28, 1922, in Lexington, MS. He passed away at Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, CA on May 24, 2000. He served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He then worked for Long Beach Naval Shipyard as a machinist. Frank retired in 1978. He married Mildred Duncan in 1943 and to that union there were three children. He then married Rosebud Wyatt in 1957 and to that union there are four children. Frank and family moved to California City in 1982. He was a member at the Community Church of California City for many years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion Post 9875; Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9875, and also a member of the Moose Lodge 1677. Frank served as a member of the California City Planning Commission for four years. For 17 years, Frank was an active participant in the Annual Fishing Derby at the Desert Tortoise Days celebration. He enjoyed teaching the youths how to set up their fishing poles and bait their hooks. His ultimate joy was to see the exciting expression on a youth's face when they hooked a fish and reeled it in by themselves. On May 16, 2000 Frank was recognized as the Official Fishing Derby Advocate for the youth of California City and the event has been named the "Annual Frank Givens Fishing Derby." He created a loving and nurturing environment full of warm feelings with pride and joy. He was also an understanding supportive husband, father and friend. He will be deeply missed and his memory will last in our hearts forever.
