Redlands Daily Facts; 03/12/2008 Dean Gordinier, a former resident of Redlands, died March 6 at his home in Carlsbad, after a short illness. He was 84. He was born Aug. 13, 1923, in Missouri and spent his early years there. He moved to California during his high school years and graduated from Compton High School. After high school, he served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy and was commissioned on the USS Rankin to the Pacific theater. Following the war, he attended the University of Missouri, earned a degree in civil engineering, then worked for Caltrans designing highways and bridges for 10 years. Over the next 30 years, he held many positions with Kasler Corp. in San Bernardino, including serving as president. He lived in Redlands from 1963 to 1988. After his retirement, he was a consultant in concrete paving for FCI in San Diego. He also served as president of the Concrete Paving Association for several years. His family said he loved what he did at every stage in his career and he continued to be active in the engineering community until late in his life. His first wife, Eve, died in 1981. He married Sondra Forsythe in 1989, and they enjoyed vacation homes in the Mexican enclaves of Cantamar and Mulege. They also loved whale watching, Dixieland bands, cruising the world and entertaining family and friends. They moved to Rancho Carlsbad Country Estates in 1999. His daughter Toni Gordinier Velez died in 2002. Survivors include his children Faye Bradley and Paula Tarango, both of San Diego, and Wayne Gordinier of Redlands; his sister Virginia Risser of Santa Barbara; and grandchildren Ryan Bradley, Shane Bradley, Austin Tarango, Dylan Tarango, Adam Gordinier, Daniel Gordinier, Max Gordinier, Zac Velez, Blake Velez and Eva Velez. A celebration of his life will be at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, in the clubhouse at Rancho Carlsbad Country Estates, 5200 El Camino Real, Carlsbad.
