Marysville Daily Appeal - Sat 5/11/1907, p5 Death of Henry Louis Harkey - Former Well Known Resident of Sutter County Dies in Oregon - Yuba City, May 10.-Henry Louis Harkey, a former resident of this county, died on April 23d at Burns, Or., at the age of 70 years. - The immediate cause of his death was spotted fever. Mr. Harkey had not been feeling well for some time, but did not consider his ailment serious. He finally came in from his ranch and called a physician and on Saturday the spotted fever developed. The spots never came to the surface properly. Mr. Harkey was one of the pioneer stockmen of this section, having come here with his family from California in 1886. He was a man well respected by his acquaintances and who was honorable in all his dealings. The funeral took place from the residence of his son Thursday morning, Rev. A. J. Irwin conducting the service. Many old time friends were present to pay a last tribute of respect to their former neighbor. Deceased was born in Illinois, September 16, 1836. Was married to Miss Mary Jane Kerr on November 1, 1870, and removed to California in 1873, coming here in 1885. He is survived by his wife and six children, Lena, Dan and Martin, all of this place, Harry Harkey and Mrs. Bessie Gittings now residing in Idaho and Mrs. Elsie Evans who lives in California. He is also survived by three brothers and a sister, their place of residence not being known to the writer. - The deceased, although he left some ten years ago with his family, will be well remembered here, for at one time he was warden of the Sutter County Hospital.
