Source Unknown; Date Unknown June 12, 1936 - Dec. 9,1998 Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday, December 19, at 10 a.m. at St. Malachy Catholic Church for John Paul Held, 62, who passed away at his residence in Torrance on December 9. Mr. Held was born in Erie, Pennsylvania on June 12, 1936. He was married on August 22, 1959 to Patricia Ann Kidson in Los Angeles. His career as a plater/machinist spanned a period of 36 years with the Department of the Navy. He had been a resident of Los Angeles County for a period of 48 years', however, he had owned a weekend home in BVS for many years. He was affiliated with St. Catherine Catholic Church of Torrance. John was a golfing enthusiast, and really loved the game. However, he still found time for his grandchildren, who were very precious to him. John will best be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his ability to tell a good story and to make people laugh. Mr. Held is survived by his wife of 39 years, Patricia of Torrance; sons, Eric and wife Linda of Las Cruces, New Mexico and Jeffrey Thomas Held of Torrance; daughter, Julie Marie Ramirez and husband, Mario of Mission Viejo; four grandchildren, Mario, Kristopher, Alyssa, and Kelsey; brothers, Richard Held and his wife, Maria of Bear Valley Springs, and Bernie Held and wife, Linda of Acton; sisters, Joan Hall and husband, Jack of Cameron Park, Claire McElliot of Huntington Beach, and Margaret Petrie and husband, Jack of Eugene, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Kurt Held and a sister, Rita St. Amand. Monsignor Joseph Barnes will officiate at the Mass. Interment will follow the Mass at Tehachapi Public Cemetery Westside. Wood Family Funeral Service handled the arrangements.
