Redlands Daily Facts; 2/13/2008 Dolores Hernandez, known as Suzie to friends and family, died Feb. 9 at Redlands Community Hospital, following an illness. She was 63. She was born March 13, 1944, in Redlands and was a lifetime resident of Redlands. Her father, Peter G. Hernandez, died in June 1944 on the beaches of Normandy, three months after she was born. He received a Purple Heart posthumously. After her father's death, her mother married Frank Vega. Growing up in Redlands, she attended Redlands schools and graduated from Redlands High School, where her family said she left several pairs of shoes behind in wet concrete. She worked at Redlands High School for 28 years, as a custodian and teacher's aide, retiring in 2005. She was a member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Redlands. Survivors include daughters Kim Bell and husband Mike of Yucaipa and Kelly Johnson and husband Robert of Redlands; grandchildren Joshua Bell and Jacob Bell of Yucaipa and Timothy Johnson and Beverly Johnson of Redlands; sister Diane Crabbe of Chula Vista; brothers Dale Vega of Gardnerville, Nev., and Donald Vega of San Bernardino; nieces Myca Burdick and husband Dustin of Chula Vista and Misti Arredondo of Vista; great-nephew Noah Burdick of Chula Vista; and great-niece Rae Lyn Arredondo of Vista. She is also survived by Anagha Madgulkar of Mentone, a family friend who was like a granddaughter to her. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 15, at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 1551 Reservoir Road, Redlands, with a reception following the service. Cortner Chapel is handling arrangements.
