ARMY TRUCK TURNS OVER
When an Army truck driven by Sgt. Robert D. Norton of the Muroc Army Air 
Base, failed to negotiate the curve on the county road between Red Mountain and 
Randsburg it went out of control and rolled over a number of times instantly killing 
Pfc. Jan J. Hilbert who suffered a skull fracture. Other passengers in the truck, Fred 
C. Batdorf, Cpl. Domenic Defuto and Pfc. James W. Hazel together with the driver 
were taken to Randsburg District Hospital for treatment and later removed to 
Mojave.
