Mojave Desert News; 19 Jun 1947 TWO PEOPLE KILLED IN AUTO ACCIDENT SATURDAY NIGHT Saturuay night at about 11 o'clock a Dept of Water and Power car, driven by William Kenneth Johnson of Mojave, sideswiped a motorcycle carrying Charles Henderson, 21, of Wilmington, who was driving it, and John McKee, 21, of Long Beach, 9 miles south of Mojave on Highway 6, both boys receiving badly broken right legs. Riding with Johnson in the car 1 were Betty Hodges Hixs, 17, of Mojave, Edward Eugene Kelley, 22, of Gardin, Okla., who were instantly killed when the car rolled over in the ditch. Other occupants of the car were Doyle Hodges, and Peggy Kelly both of Mojave who were badly bruised, and shaken up. All the injured, were taken to the Tehachapi Hospital for treatment. The accident occurred when Johnson's car tried to pass another car ahead of him and too late noticed the motorcycle coming. The car is a total wreck and Johnson is being held on a charge of involuntary manslaughter. Peggy Kelly is not doing so well as she is suffering from a bad concussion.
