Ernest S. Horany mourned at age of 81
DOWNEY-Services were held Aug. 17 at the Downey First Presbyterian Church for Ernest S. Horany, 
a longtime local dentist, who died Aug. 14 at his Downey home. 
He was 81, born in Shamrock, Oklahoma Sept. 19, 1917. He graduated from Cushing, Oklahoma, 
High School at the age of 15. In 1935 the family moved to Los Angeles. He attended USC both as an 
undergraduate and in graduate school, and opened his first pediatric dental practice in Bell and later 
Lynwood. 
He married his wife, Mabel, in 1948. 
The family has lived in Downey since 1960. He retired in April, 1998. 
He was past president of the Los Angeles Dental Society, a member of the Downey Dental Academy, 
and volunteered his services to Downey schools and the Assistance League of Downey. 
Survivors include his daughter, Sheri Ply Horany of Downey; his son, Gary Horany of Westminster; four 
grandchildren, Jaime and Brian Ply of Downey, and Kimberly and Tess Horany of Westminster; two 
brothers, Louis Horany of San Juan Capistrano, and Floyd Horany of San Marcos. 
Donations may be made in his name to the USC Kenneth-Norris Cancer Center.
