The Downey Eagle January 29, 1999 Volume 6 Number 49 Virginia Hostutler mourned at age of 84 DOWNEY-Memorial services will be held at 1 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, at the Downey Church of Religious Science for Virginia A. Hostutler, a former secretary at Rancho Los Amigos for 36 years, who died Jan. 10. She was 84, born Feb. 22, 1914 in Hutchinson, Kansas, and moved to California as a child with her family. She attended Monrovia High School and later Pasadena College. She joined the U.S. Navy in November, 1942, and completed basic training in Milledgeville, Georgia. She was then transferred to the Office of Hydrographics in Washington, D.C. She was discharged from the Navy as Yeoman 1st. Class on Sept. 24, 1945 and made her home in South Gate. She was involved in many civic activities, volunteering many hours to friends of the Hollydale Library. She retired to Lakewood Park Manor in Downey in January, 1966. Burial was at Rose Hills Cemetery.
