Source Unknown; 11 Aug 1955 Last Rites For Mrs. Hubbard Last rites were held Saturday, August 6, at the O'Donnell Funeral Chapel in Mojave for Mrs. Mabel Jane Hubbard, 59, of Johannesburg. Mrs. Hubbard died on Wednesday morning, August 3, at the San Joaquin hospital in Bakersfield. A victim of cancer, she had been in poor health for some time preceding her death. The Rev. Charles Reeves, former chaplain at the U. S. Naval Ordnance Test Station, China Lake, conducted the services. Pall bearers were James Nosser, of Johannesburg; Jason Brainerd and Edward Riopel of Ridgecrest; M. M. "Jack" Warner, of Inyokern; and Patrick Shields and Roy J. Simi of Lancaster. .] Entombment followed Saturday afternoon at the Sunnyside Mausoleum in Long Beach. Mrs. Hubbard is survived by her husband, Paul, and son, Robert, who are proprietors of Hubbard Printing and publishers of the Indian Wells Valley Independent, a Ridgecrest newspaper; and by a brother and sister, William and Esther Shafer, both of Lake Wilson. Minn. Her sister had arrived from the east two weeks earlier to be with her during her final days. Born in Woodstock, Minn., Mrs. Hubbard had been. a resident of California since 1926. She had resided in Lancaster for 13 years, while Mr. Hubbard was co pub- lisher of the Antelope Valley Ledger-Gazette, and had lived in Johannesburg since 1939. During those years she was active in the family's printing business. Poor health had forced her gradual withdrawal from full-time participation in the business operation.
