Hutchins, a former Mission Aviation Fellowship pilot, died of leukemia Jan. 23 at Plymouth Village in Redlands. He was 81. He was born June 25, 1926, in Chicago and had lived in Yucaipa for 28 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and for more than 35 years was a pilot for Mission Aviation Fellowship, which until recently was based in Redlands. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Free Church in Redlands and volunteered for many organizations, including Micah House in Redlands. Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Hutchins of Redlands; son Bruce Hutchins and his wife Mona of Victorville; daughter Bonnie Amstutz and her husband Charles of Fayetteville, N.C.; grandson John Amstutz of Fayetteville; and brother Robert Hansen and his wife Connie of Prospect Heights, Ill. Visitation is 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, at Cortner Chapel, 221 Brookside Ave., Redlands. Services are 2 p.m. Thursday at Trinity Evangelical Free Church, 1551 Reservoir Road, Redlands. Burial will be at Riverside National Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Trinity Evangelical Free Church's Community Foundation or to Micah House.
