Jacinto, beloved father, brother and grandfather, passed away on Sunday, March 28, 2010, in Yucaipa, Calif., He was 88. Alfred lived a long and good life in the Redlands/Yucaipa area and had many friends. He was a proud veteran, having served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW Post of Yucaipa, the Redlands Elks, and Knights of Columbus. He was especially proud of his Portuguese heritage and was a lifelong member of the Portuguese-American Club of Mentone, Calif., and other Portuguese groups such as I.D.E.S and the UPEC. Alfred was preceded in death by his wife, Marian, who died in 1999. He had a special loving relationship with his two stepsons, Larry Fernandez of San Diego and Paul Fernandez of Fontana. His six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren all miss him very much. He was lovingly called Grandpa by his grandchildren and other youngsters. Friends and acquaintances affectionately called him Uncle Al. His brother Anthony would visit him every week and bring him his favorite gum. Both of them loved and respected each other throughout their lives in Redlands. Alfred's rosary and memorial service will be held on April 7, 2010, at Cortner Chapel, 221 Brookside Ave., Redlands, Calif., at 1 p.m. A reception to celebrate his life will follow the service.
