Source Unknown; 6 Sep 1951 Child Loses Life In Gun Accident Little Gilbert Jacks, 4 1/2 year old, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Jacks, of 219 L Street, died in Kern General Hospital Saturday morning, as a result of a bullet wound in the abdomen, received when he attempted to take a gun away from, his younger brother Friday evening. The accident occurred when Mr. and Mrs. Jacks and their three children drove to the scene of a fire near Inyo and K Streets. Mr. Jacks, Mojave fireman left to help fight the blaze and Mrs. Jacks stepped out of the car to watch. One of the youngsters saw the gun under the front seat of the car and picked it up. Gilbert attempted to take the gun from him and it discharged. When Mrs. Jacks returned to the car, the boy was lying on the seat, critically wounded. The boy was, rushed to the Mojave Hospital for first aid and then taken to Kern General. Sheriff's deputies met the racing car near Bakersfield and escorted it to the hospital where doctors worked frantically to save the youngster's life. He passed away about 15 hours after being admitted to the institution Funeral services for the boy will be held Friday, Sept. 7th, at the Acheson and Graham Mortuary in Riverside, Calif., with burial following in the Olive Wood cemetery.
