All persons donating to this site retain the rights to their own work. Source Unknown; Date Unknown Longtime Boron resident J.O. (John Oliver) Jennings passed away on September 1, 2002 at his home. He was born May 24, 1921 in Heartshorn, OK. where he married his sweetheart, Thelma. The couple, who was married for 49 years, moved to Boron in 1946 making it their permanent home and raising their family there. Mr. Jennings served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked at US Borax as an oiler and retired after 37 years with the company. During his years at Borax, he began several small business ventures. Following his retirement Mr. Jennings, who loved to tinker, continued to maintain his rental properties, car wash and houses. He and his wife were honored by the community of Boron several years ago when they served as Grand Marshals of the annual Twenty Mule Team Days parade. Mr. Jennings was also recognized by the Boron American Legion in 2001, at the age of 80, as the last surviving Charter Member of the Post. Traveling in his motorhome to visit family members in Texas, Oklahoma and Arkansas was a favorite activity of Mr. Jennings who also enjoyed camping and fishing. He is survived by his wife Thelma of Boron; sons Jim and wife Betty of Texas, Bob and wife Pat of Boron and Dennis Johnson also of Boron and his daughter Carol Lee of Hawaii. Mr. Jennings had 10 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Lorena, one brother and three sisters. Viewing was held on Wednesday, September 4, 2002 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Haley Olsen Funeral Home in Lancaster, CA.
