"Big Bear Grizzly"; Wednesday, June 3, 2009 "Granny" 86, lovingly known to all as Granny, was born on Jan. 27, 1923 in Oklahoma City, Okla., and passed away with her family at her side on May 23, 2009, in San Pedro, Calif. She was a proud resident of Big Bear Lake, Calif., since 1980. The V.F.W., American Legion Ladies Auxiliary, Senior Citizens Center, and the "Birthday Club" were a few of the many ways she kept herself active. She was an incredible woman with an endless amount of love to give. "My name is Mary but you can call me Granny" is the warm and loving statement that was often heard in first time introductions. Her love for her family and friends resonated in her baking holiday cookies (famous for Rum balls and potato candy), handmade ornaments & baby blankets, as well as birthday cards that she thoughtfully would send to her loved ones year after year. Many also knew Granny to be stubborn and feisty in character. These characteristics appeared to pull her through the difficult times in her life along with her faith in God and the support of her family. Granny will be missed for many things including her priceless advice, vivid stories, and her contagious strength. She is now in heaven having a reunion with her beloved husband, Walt, her two sons, Murrel Jr. and Leonard Tittle, and her grandson Barry Hallet. Granny is survived by her daughter Elevia (Bill Sr.) Hallet, 16 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and 3 great great grandchildren. Granny has truly shown us how to live everyday to its fullest by loving the ones around you. We love you Granny . . . and we will miss you immensely.
