Ukiah Daily Journal, Thursday, Feb 4, 1988, Pg 14 Willits - Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Feb. 5., at the Willits Cemetery for Jerry Wilbur (Smokey) Johnston Sr, 58, who died Jan. 31 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinez. officiating will be the Rev. Albert Damon of the First Presbyterian Church in Ukiah. Arrangements are by Anker-Lucier Mortuary. Johnston was born July 14, 1929, in Osceola, Mo. He was a resident of Ludlow at the time of his death, having resided there one and half years after spending most of his life in Willits. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean conflict and had worked as an equipment operator for 35 years last employed by Knoll Enterprises. Surviving him are a daughter, Darlene Morehouse of Ukiah; two sons, Jerry W. Johnston Jr. of Ludlow and William W Johnston of Lakeport; two sisters, Mamie Knoll and Louise Hennington of Ludlow; brother, Robert Johnston of Missouri; four grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family prefers memorial contributions to be made to the American Cancer Society.
