He was born in Seattle, Wash., on March 25, 1940. A 37-year resident of Big Bear Valley, William served in the U.S. Air Force and was retired from Bear Mountain. William was active in Old Miners Days during the 1980s and 1990s. He is survived by his wife, Doris Johnston of Sugarloaf, stepdaughter Paula Vaccariello of Sugarloaf, stepson Michael Vaccariello of San Diego and in Seattle, Wash., son William Johnston, sister Judy DePalma, sister Shirley Harding, brother Ralph Johnston and brother Robert Johnston. He is also survived by two grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at the Church of Christ, 41035 Big Bear Blvd. on Tuesday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m.
