The Downey Eagle January 26, 2001 Volume 8 Number 49 Services for Eleanor Kerr set for Saturday DOWNEY-Funeral services for Eleanor Kerr, Downey resident for more than 40 years, and a retired employee of General Telephone Co., where she was a supervisor for more than 20 years, will be held tomorrow (Saturday, Jan. 27) at 3 p.m. at the Downey Memorial Christian Church, 8441 Florence Ave. She died Jan. 22 in Tempe, Arizona, where she had moved due to declining health, and to be near her daughter, Charlene Doley. She was active in the Downey Soroptimist Club, and served as president, as well as other club offices. Survivors include her daughters, Charlene Doley of Arizona, Vera Lee Miner of Paramount; her sons, Charles Cates of Texas, Tim Cates of Colorado, and David Cates of Anaheim. The Rev. James Piper will officiate. A reception at the church will follow the memorial. The family suggests those wishing to make a memorial gift in lieu of flowers address it to the Alzheimer's Association.
