Oroville Daily Register � February 24, 1923, Pg. 3 PIONEER MATRON OF SCALES DEAD � La Porte, Feb. 23.---Mrs. Jane Kingdon, for many years a resident of Plumas and Sierra Counties, passed away at her home in Berkeley on February 12, at the ripe age of 81 years. Deceased was a native of Devonshire, England and came to the United states in her early childhood, with her parents, who made their home in Iowa. In January 1863, she was united in marriage to Henry kingdom, who was engaged in mining near La Porte, at what is now known as Secret Diggings. Five years later they removed to Sierra county, near Scales, which place, with the exception of about seven years, remained their home ever since, until about two years ago when owing to her feeble health, Mrs. Kingdon remained in Berkeley with her eldest daughter, Mrs. Hubert Rowell. She is survived by her aged husband, Henry Kingdon, three daughters, Mrs. Hubert N. Rowell, Mrs. Alice S. Brown and Mrs. D. H. Syllvester, all of Berkeley; and one son, Richard Kingdon, of La Porte.
