Friends, family mourn Helen Koeller at 83
DOWNEY-A Funeral Mass was held at Saint Raymond's Church June 10 for Helen S. Koeller, age 83, 
who was born on Feb. 12, 1918 in Hartford, South Dakota and died at her Downey home June 7. A 
Vigil and Rosary were held June 10 at Zrelak Family Mortuary. 
She had resided here since 1953 and worked for almost a decade in the 70s at J.C Penney in Stonewood 
Mall. She retired when one of her two daughters, Debbie, became very ill. 
Leaving home at an early age, she moved to Omaha, Nebraska where she went to school to learn radio 
communications. She taught it to Air Force personnel from 1943-1946. 
In 1948 she came to California and shortly after met George Koeller through a friend of hers at work. 
She and George married in 1950 and by 1953 had two daughters, Debbie and Gail. 
She enjoyed reading, cooking, and going to Laughlin-and challenging the video poker machines. She was 
an avid reader, and focused on government and politics. 
Survivors include her husband, George, daughter Gail Scott (Mike) of Norwalk, grandchildren Tara Scott 
of Norwalk and Steven Scott (Samantha) of Huntington Beach, great grandchildren Gage and Kasey Scott 
of Huntington Beach.
