California Obituaries Appeal-Democrat, The - (Feb/22/2004) Charles E. Lane Charles Edward Lane, 80, of Yuba City died Feb. 17, 2004, at his residence. Born in Denver, Colo., he was a Yuba-Sutter resident for 45 years. He was a right-of-way agent for the California Department of Transportation, or Caltrans, for 32 years and a member of the International Right of Way Association, Chapter 27. His memberships included the Yuba City Moose Lodge Chapter 1204, National Rifle Association, AARP, Yuba City Rod and Gun Club, Naval Lodge No. 87, Free and Accepted Masons of Vallejo, Mariner Marlin Association and the Association of Naval Aviation. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, serving in 25 missions. Survivors include a son, William Lane of Yuba City; two daughters, Jennifer Lane of California and Rebecca P. Rutherford of Kansas; a stepdaughter, Shannon Desmarais of Sacramento; his mother, Pearl Bates of Garnerville, Nev.; and two grandsons. Donations may be made to the Diabetes Society, 2720 Gateway Oaks Drive, No. 110, Sacramento CA 95833; or the Disabled American Veterans. Services: Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Ullrey Memorial Chapel, 817 Almond St., Yuba City. A service is scheduled at 10 a.m. Monday, also at the chapel. Burial will be at Sutter Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Yuba City Moose Lodge on Walton Avenue, Yuba City.
