Mojave Desert News; 12 Sep 1996 Juanita Alfretta Smith-Lasker was born on November 18,1921 to Mae and Frederick Jones, Sr. in Cincinnati, Ohio. She attended Cummins Elementary and Withrow High School and Los Angeles Trade Technical College. She was known affectionately to family and friends as "Presh," Nita" and "Nana." She married Charles Lasker on December 12, 1971 and relocated to dream home in California City where she acquired a host of friends and acquaintances. Charles remained her devoted and loving husband until her demise. Juanita worked for a number of years as a cosmetologist then she pursued advanced studies to become a masseuse. This led her to becoming an entrepreneur in Kern County. Nita retired in 1990. She leaves to cherish her memory her husband Charles; son Gustave S. Smith, Jr. and wife Shirley; daughter Sandra Delahoussaye-Bonds and husband Manville; sisters Ruby Conner and husband Earl, and Elaine Henderson and husband Percy of Forth Worth, Texas; brothers Fred Jones, Jr. and wife Maria, and Donald Jones and wife Marian sister-in-law Opal Jones of Sacramento, California; eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and cousins; and a host of friends. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her and loved her. Funeral services were held September 4, 1996 at Memorial Chapel, Rose Hills Memorial Park, Whittier, California.
