The Downey Eagle May 29, 1998 Volume 6 Number 14 Joel Herbert Lubin funeral held Wednesday DOWNEY-Funeral services for Joel Herbert Lubin, a longtime Downey resident and community l eader, were held Wednesday, May 27, at the Hillside Chapel of Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier. Born in Illinois Oct. 12, 1937, he was an industrial engineer, working in the field of public utilities for the state, and died May 22 in Beverly Hospital in Montebello after being felled by a heart attack May 17. He was active in the community and politics, and was a former candidate for the Downey City Council, County Supervisor and State Senate (27th District). Educated in Chicago with a degree in engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology, he later completed degrees at USC, and was registered as both a civil and industrial engineer. In the past he served the City as a member of the Charter Review Committee. More recently he was appointed to the Cable-TV Advisory Committee and worked tirelessly to improve service. He brought a passion for the political process to whatever cause he championed, and will be sorely missed. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Downey; and a son, Andy. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Arrangements were by the R.L. Malinow-Glasban-Weinstein Funeral Home of Los Angeles.
