Wicherdina Ludikhuize Posted: 03/27/2010 02:25:53 PM PDT Wicherdina Ludikhuize died, peacefully in her home surrounded by her family on Thursday, March 18, 2010, from complications related to myelodysplasia. She was 87 years old. Wicherdina "Dina" was born in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on March 20, 1923. She was one of seven children born to Marianne and Johannes Ter Laak. Dina married Jozias "Joe" Ludikhuize on November 23, 1949. Dina and Joe immigrated to the United States in 1957 along with two of their children, Gerard and Marianne. They were the first Dutch family to be sponsored by the First United Methodist Church in Redlands of which Dina later became a member. Dina was a furrier in Holland, a trade she continued out of her home in Redlands. She enjoyed sewing and all types of needlecraft, as well as traveling and camping. She loved paddling her kayak on Silver Lake and Lake San Antonio. Dina was a Girl Scout leader for many years and received a Life Service Award for her leadership in Scouting. She was also an avid square dancer for over 40 years. She belonged to the Who Goofed Squares and was a past president of the group. Dina is survived by her husband of 60 years, Joe Ludikhuize of Redlands. She is also survived by her two sons, Gerard Ludikhuize and Ron Ludikhuize, and her daughter, Marianne Ludikhuize Agre, all of Redlands; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren: Jason Agre, Amber Ludikhuize, Chris Ludikhuize and his daughters Kacie and Lilyan, Suzanne Ludikhuize Gildner and her daughter Grace, all of Redlands, Tawnya Agre Lichtman of Monrovia, Jesse Ludikhuize and his children, Adison and Bryce of Victorville, Joshua Ludikhuize and his son Jonah of Wilton, and Christine Ludikhuize Rodriguez and her daughter Lauryn of Fresno. A memorial service celebrating Dina's life will be held, April 10, 2010, at the First United Methodist Church in Redlands at 3:30 in the afternoon. The family suggests that donations in Dina's memory be made to the Salvation Army in lieu of flowers.
