Redwood Journal, September 15, 1947 In a family row, ended at about 11:30 Sunday night, James Luff, 42 was shot through he right chest at close range woth a .30-.30 Springfield army rifle in the hands of his wife, Mrs Dolly Luff at their home, 240 Mason Street, and died Monday morning at 10:30George Kunz, next door neighbor of the Luff's, heard the row and the shot , and there no further disturbance took it upon himself to notify the police of what he thought had been a murder. Officers Weselsky and Moore went to the Luff home and found the mortally wounded man lying in a pool of blood in the front room and sent him to the hospital by the city ambulance. Evidence gathered by the officers show that Mrs. Luff stood on the back porch of the home and fired the shot through the kitchen and living room doors at her husband in the middle of the living room. Officer Travis Simpson talked to Luff early Monday morning and learned that two shots were fired, the first missing the mark.
