Martinez-Salcedo (Mom Jennie), was born on May 9, 1923 in Swink, Colo., to Esteban and Deborah Saragoza. She passed away in her home on Feb. 28, 2008 with her family at her side. She was 84 years of age. Jennie was a resident of Barstow for 62 years, met and married Manuel Martinez-Salcedo, and together they raised their family. Jennie is survived by a brother, Julio Saragoza of Colorado; her children and their spouses, Steve and Rosie Sanchez, Poncie and Diana, Alex and Rosie, Manuel and Grace, Saturnino (Turnie) and Angela, Andrew Martinez and Debbie and Phil Aguayo, and Audrey and Derek Budgell; grandchildren, Anthony and Matthew Sanchez, Robert, Jamie, Marcello, Louie, Josh Russell, Andre, Steven, Kyle Martinez, Christopher, Nellie and Monica Garcia, Rosalie Barela, Julia Moya, Vanessa Zamora, Alexis and Erica Aguayo, Kiana and Misha Martinez, Barbara, Sarah and Mary Sanchez; great-grandchildren, Kristen, Heather, Steven, Allyssa, DJ, Jamie, Isabell, Alex, Celina, Micahel, Robert, Christopher, Lucky, Chance, Marley, Skyler, Chase, Jayden, Emilio and Ezra. She was preceded in death by her husband, Manuel Martinez-Salcedo; son, Gilbert (Guber) Sanchez; her parents; brothers and sisters of Colorado; sister, Concha (Connie Zamora); grandson, Steven; and great-granddaughter, Riley. Jennie was employed for 20 years at the Marine Corps Logistics Base, and owned and operated Salcedo's El Burrito for 18 years. She was well known for her delicious homemade tortillas and burritos and fed her Santa Fe Family and all her friends in Barstow. She was a homemaker, a mother, grandmother and great grandmother, an aunt, and a good friend to many. She is remembered by her gracious and loving personality and brought a lot of joy to all who knew her. She was a devoted Catholic and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She enjoyed watching her novellas and her favorite baseball team, the L.A. Dodgers, and basketball's, Kobie and Shaquille. She enjoyed trips to Stateline, Mexico and Disneyland and there was always something she looked forward to. She enjoyed her special relationships with her many dear friends, comadres, compadres, her Godchildren, those that held a special place in her heart. The family would like you to join them in celebrating her life and memory at St. Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday, March 4, 2008 with visitation at 5 p.m., and Rosary at 6 p.m. Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2008 at 10 a.m. also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Mt. View Memorial Park and a reception, following burial, at Knights of Columbus Hall on Victor Street. In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that donations be made to Hospice of VNA.
