Graveside services for John Elvin Mathews, 75, will take place at 10 a.m. Monday at Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Larry Walter of First Congregational Church will preside. Mr. Mathews died Wednesday at Oroville Hospital. He was born in Rawlings, Wyoming, February 14, 1916 and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Raised and educated in Oroville, Mr. Mathews had been a graduate of Oroville High School. He worked as shop foreman for the Butte County Public Works Maintenance Dept., retiring several years ago. He had been a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 196 of Oroville and the 717th Tank Battalion Group. Preceded in death by his wife, Lela, in 1981, he is survived by his sons, John of Oroville and Todd of Santa Monica; and his sisters, Delpha Shull of Auburn and Merle Caboro of Oroville. Services are under the direction of Scheer Memorial Chapel
