Lela B. Mathews of Oroville died Saturday morning in a Chico hospital. A native 
of Anderson, Mrs Mathews was born Dec. 21, 1917, the daughter of Frank and 
Eva Park, members of a pioneer family. She was head bookkeeper for the J. C. 
Penney Store in Oroville for 25 years, retiring in 1959. Surviving are her 
husband, John E. Mathews; two sons, John S. of Oroville and Todd Michael of 
Inglewood; a sister, Isabell Willhite of White Rock, Ore.; and a brother, 
Torrance Park of Kirkwood, Wash. Graveside services were held today at 1 p.m. 
in Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Uzzel of First Baptist Church 
officiated. Arrangements were under the direction of Scheer Memorial Chapel.
