Redlands Daily Facts; 03/12/2008 Marjorie Nonei Mathews, a longtime resident of Redlands and Yucaipa, died Feb. 11 at Redlands Community Hospital, following an illness. She was 91. She was born Nov. 20, 1916, in Glendale to Marjorie and Duane Mooore and lived many places in Southern California while she was growing up. While in Long Beach, she attended beauty school when she was 17. She lived most of her adult life in Yucaipa and Redlands. While in Yucaipa she owned and operated Nonnie's Gateway to Beauty for 20 years. She enjoyed her work as a beautician, and after she sold the shop she donated her services at retirement centers and nursing homes. Her family said she loved helping people and spending time with her family. Her mother, Marjorie Ransom Cummins, was a well-known artist in the western United States, known for her landscapes and seascapes. She died in 1978. Survivors include her sons James Lacy and wife Brenda of Canyon Country and John Lacy and wife Susie of Spokane; daughter-in-law Paula Stapert and husband Jeff of Redlands; four grandchildren, Robin McLaughlin, Scott Lacy, Leticia Lacy and Joshua Lacy; and four great-grandchildren. A remembrance service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 22, in the Chapel of the Grail at First Congregational Church of Redlands, 2 W. Olive Ave. A reception will follow.
