Source Unknown; 31 Jan 1952 Pop Maynard Passes Away While Asleep Orrin Ray (Pop) Maynard passed away peacefully in his sleep at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon, in his home, 46 L. Street. "Pop" . Maynard was widely known in this, area as early as 1910 when he came through Mojave as a traveling salesman, for a parts company. In 1926 he went to work for Lambert Company in Los Angeles and was employed with them until 1938. In that year he established an auto parts store in Cantil. This was the only store selling auto parts on the desert at that time. In 1941 he moved with his family to Mojave, occupying part of' a building which also housed a garage managed by Sid and Jerry Alderson. When both men were called into the armed service Pop" bought their equipment and took over the lease. Don Gallogly, his grandson, joined him in business in 1949. In June of the following year "Pop" built his new building next door to the old one and in August of' 1951, celebrated his 40th year in the auto parts business. "Pop's" jovial disposition will be greatly missed by his multitude of friends and business associates. The children of Mojave will too feel the loss of a friend. "Pop" loved children and they loved him. Every year, for instance Pop gave toys and candy toward the Community Xmas Party and that was only one example of his generosity and kindness. His friends can relate many occasions of outstanding unselfishness and community spirit. Pop was born in Buffalo, New York, October 19, 1879. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mirian Maynard of Arcadia, daughters, Mrs. Edna McCutcheon and Ruth Gallogly, both of Arcadia; grandchildren, Don Gallogly, Mojave and Mrs. Dorothy Hutcheson, Arcadia, and great grandaughter Janice McCutcheon. Funeral arrangements are pending but burial will probably be in Los Angeles.
