Friends, family grieve for Esther McCormick
DOWNEY-Esther McCormick died Sunday, Jan. 10, at Cedars-Sinai Hospital. She was born Oct. 9, 1917 
in Moriah, New York, grew up in Mineville, New York, and graduated from Elmira College in 1940. 
Moving to New York City, she worked in a nursery school where she became friends with Dr. Benjamin 
Spock, who was a consultant there. 
She married James McCormack. They moved to Bellflower for a few years before coming to Downey, 
where they raised three sons, Robert, Douglas and Donald. She was active in the American Association 
of University Women and the Democratic Party, and enjoyed bridge, the beach, reading mysteries and 
bird watching. 
James preceded her in death in 1991.
