Born to Carl and Elizabeth Merklin on September 16, 1928 in Spokane, Washington, he worked for Pac Bell for 35 years and served in the Air Force for 10 years. He is survived by his wife Florence Merklin of California City; son Robert Merklin, daughter Melodie K. Peters both of Yuba City, California; brother C. Philip Merklin of Oregon; sisters Margaret Fraizer and Velma Babbs; stepson Joe Daraskevius of Rosamond, California; 8 grandchildren, Sasha, Daphanne, Krysti, Tamara, Adam, Timothy, Joseph and Michael. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Elizabeth, brother, George and sister Julia Newhouse. Services were held on June 7 at 10 a.m. by Rev. Sparks at the California City Community Church with burial at Hillcrest Memorial Park, Bakersfield, California. Arrangements by Stickel Mortuary, Mojave.
