The Downey Eagle February 2, 2001 Volume 8 Number 50 Friends, family grieve for Florine Minnig at 80 DOWNEY-Funeral services were held Jan. 30 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church for Florine Minnig, a Downey resident for 27 years who died Jan. 25 at age 80. She grew up in Dodge City, Kansas with her four brothers and widowed mother, running a boarding house during the depression and dust bowl. At age 17, she moved to Los Angeles and worked in a factory for the war effort as a beautician and later as one of the pioneers in the fledgling computer business at the Auto Club of Southern California. There she met Paul Minnig to whom she would be married for 52 years. They raised two sons, Bill and Michael, who would become a China trader and doctor of optometry, respectively. Florine rivaled Tommy Lasorda as the ultimate Dodger fan and followed every game. She was a devout and active member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Church and in later years enjoyed puzzles and the occasional trip for a go at the poker machines. She is survived by her husband, Paul, two sons, William and Michael, and brother William Hurley. Arrangements were by the Downey Zrelak Family Mortuary.
